Documentary filmmaker Kirby Dick launches an incendiary, full-frontal assault on the Motion Picture Association of America’s Classification and Ratings Administration (a.k.a. the MPAA’s CARA).

This is the entity that assigns ratings to movies — the familiar G, PG, PG-13, R, and NC-17 designations.

The film rating system in this country is governed by a secret panel created by the major film studios more than 35 years ago. Since its inception the MPAA ratings board has functioned as a sort of ‘black box’ where movies go in one end and a rating comes out the other, with absolutely no transparency or public accountability of the process.

This secret, unregulated organization wields considerable power over the film industry and operates, the filmmaker asserts, on a highly subjective and prejudicial basis.

A film by Greg Palast about the 2002 attempted coup and assassination of Hugo Chavez.  Some allege that the US State Department and CIA was involved in this conspiracy to overthrow and murder Chavez. Ambassador Shapiro was seen in photos with the coup leaders who had to return the kidnapped Chavez after his supporters threatened to kill them.
